Who is the Direct Care Worker?

Direct Care Workers are individuals who earn their income by providing        compassion and care to those in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, adult  care homes, group homes, and private homes. 


        Direct Care Workers include:

What do direct care workers do?

Direct care workers provide 70-80% of hands-on care to vulneralbe adults. They provide services for elders and people with disablitiles that allow them to preserve their dignity and to participate in life and community activities that enhance their quality of life. For example, direct care workers prepare meals as well as assist with dressing and bathing and other activities of daily living.  Their help enables clients or residents the freedom to attend church, to go shopping, or visit with friends and family either within residential communities or individual homes.

What we provide

Opportunity:  
We provide the opportunity for the Direct Care Worker to have a voice and be part of the statewide professional organization advocating for positive change.

Support and Membership Services:
We provide support, educational opportunities, peer networking opportunities, and leadership training. We also connect members to resources within the community that enhance their own well-being. 

Public Education and Awareness:  
We educate the public, consumers, and policymakers about the crisis facing the long-term care industry due to the shortage of Direct Care Workers.  Our goal is to bring awareness to the challenges Direct Care Workers face, including low wages, benefits, and support.
