What do direct care workers do? Direct care workers provide 70-80% of hands-on care to vulneralbe adults. They provide services for elders and people with disablitiles that allow them to preserve their dignity and to participate in life and community activities that enhance their quality of life. For example, direct care workers prepare meals as well as assist with dressing and bathing and other activities of daily living. Their help enables clients or residents the freedom to attend church, to go shopping, or visit with friends and family either within residential communities or individual homes.
